Sometimes users wanted more memory than the C64 could offer. New ways were tried to get more memory. Commodore released different modells of the REU (RAM Expansion Unit). The REU is an extra memory supported by different C64 programs. Contrary to the original hardware Emu64 lets you save/load the content in the REU memory. The usage of the REU within Emu64 emulates the use of the original hardware. This mean the REU is not active on default. You have to plug it into the C64 before, then you can use the additional RAM.
