Menu: C64 Files → Autostart [PRG,T64,P00,FRZ,D64,G64]
Use this menu item to directly load image files and automatically start them. When you click on the menu item the file browser opens and you can select the files there.
You can change the drive via the pulldown menu Search in:. Only PRG, T64, P00, FRZ, D64 or G64 files are shown in the selection area. Click on an entry to select it and then click the button to open the file, load it and start it. In case you want to do something different you can always cancel the whole thing by pressing the
button.
There are different ways the autostart will happen. This depends on the imageformat of the file you want to open.
Before an image file is loaded Emu64 performs a hard reset to clear the whole memory.
These imagefiles contain only one single C64 program. If you choose this file type Emu64 loads the program into the C64 memory and automatically starts it with the RUN command.
These imagefiles contain one side of a 5,25“ disc. Emu64 starts with the command LOAD „*“,8,1 and loads the first file from the disc into the C64 memory. Once the loading is finished Emu64 automatically performs the RUN command.
Note Automatically loading imagefiles into the C64 memory via Emu64 doesn't affect the emulated floppy and the floppy window! In case you want to access this disc image later on, it could be, that you first have to select it in the floppy window to be inserted into the emulated floppy.
These imagefiles contain a tape for the C64. If you choose this file type Emu64 loads the first program on the tape image into the C64 memory and automatically starts it with the RUN command.
Note
T64 is not fully supported within Emu64. There is only one program allowed within the image and no later reloading is possible.
FRZ files are freeze files for the Emu64. Within this file the whole state of the C64 with all memory banks and loaded programs and so on is saved. If you choose this file type Emu64 loads the saved C64 emulation state and continues emulating from this point on.
There are a lot of different reasons why a program won't run after successfully loading it.
There are programs that are not run with the RUN command, but with SYS <startaddress>.
If the first file on a discimage is no executable program, LOAD „*“,8,1 will load it but you can't run it.
A lot of the imagefiles on the internet are just broke or corrupted or bad dumps.
If a disc image (.D64/.G64) doesn't work properly try loading it via the floppy window.
