The Floppy Window

The area on the left lets you select the disc image on your PC. This works just as in every file browser.

Disc Image

A disc image is a 100% data image of a floppy disc that is saved in a file. This is the imagefile that is the data container. There are different kinds of image files. The floppy drive in Emu64 works with .D64 and .G64 imagefiles that mirror one side of a 5,25“ disc.

Choose the drive on top (1), select the folder below (2).

If there are imagefiles in the selected folder they are shown in the discwindow (3) below.

If you click on an image the content will be shown on the right side.

Use the checkbox (4) „Disc Write Protection“ to set the writeprotection for the disc. This flag is connected to the write flag (windows file attribute [S]) of the image file.

Double click into the disc window (3) makes the C64 perform a hard reset, puts the disc into the disc drive and then enters LOAD „*“,8,1 on the C64 screen. After loading the first file on the disc RUN is executed automatically.

The disc window (3) also has a context menu (5) (right click) which lets you insert a new disc image or delete a present image.

If you want to create a new image a new window opens (6) and you can enter the following.

FilenameHere you enter the name of the image file. You don't have to enter .D64.
DisknameHere you enter the name of the C64 disc. This is shown in the C64 directory ($).
Disk IDID number of the C64 disc. This is also shown in the C64 directory ($).

Click on "New" to create the new image and select it.

If you select a ZIP-File instead of a D64/G64 image file another small window (1) is shown. Here you can see the whole content of the ZIP-file. You can't delete or write to imagefiles in a ZIP-file. That's why the write protection is always active and greyed out. Image files in a ZIP file have a really small filesize on your HDD.

Content Display of the selected Disc Image

The window on the right side shows the content of the currently selected disc image. The content display is separated in columns with the following meaning:

FILEshows the names of the files on the disc
TRACKshows the track on which the first block of the file is located
SECTORshows the sector in which the first block of the file is
ADDRESSstartaddress of the file, the file is loaded to this part of the memory
SIZESize of the file in blocks (1 Block = 254 Byte)
TYPEShow the file type (DEA, SEQ, PRG, USR, REL, CBM & E00)

All C64 files are marked with a colorful symbol. This helps to better see executable files. The colors have the following meaning:

This file begins right at the basic start ($0801), file type is „PRG“ and it is an executable file for 99,9%.
This file begins before the basic start ($0801), file type is „PRG“ and it could be an executable file.
This file begins after the basic start ($0801) and is no executable file for 99,9%.

Double Click on a file and a hard reset is performed in the C64 window and the file is loaded directly into the RAM (Fastload without kernel) and automatically started with RUN.

Within the display of the content you can open another context menu that lets you load programs with other methods and features additional functions.

Load and start with reset (without kernel)a hard reset is performed in the C64 window and the file is loaded directly into the RAM (Fastload without kernel) and automatically started with RUN.
Load and start with reseta hard reset is performed in the C64 window and the file is loaded and automatically started with RUN.
Load and startLoads a file with LOAD „filename“ ,8,1 and starts it with RUN.
LoadJust loads a file with LOAD „filename“ ,8,1.
export fileThe selected file is exported as PRG. You can choose where you want to save it.
Send file via Lan64The selected file is sent to the C64 via Lan64. Lan64 has to run on the C64 for this.

More Functions of the Floppy Window

If you want you can hide the area on the right to have more space on the screen.

Use the < < < button (1) to hide the content window and use the > > > button (2) to show it again. If you can't see the > > > button (2) you have to drag the window down to make it appear.

You can also hide DEL files, to do so you just have to uncheck the option „Show deleted files“.
