Installation


System requirements

  • Windows XP / 2000 / Vista / Windows 7
  • min. DirectX version 9.0c
  • min. .NET Framework 2.0
  • Optional: DirectX capable joystick / joypad

Note



The .NET framework is used for the frontend of Emu64. The actual emulation software is written in C++. For the graphics and the sound as well as for the game controls DirectX is used. Other Operatíng Systems are not supported by now.

Since version 4.30 you need DirectX version 9.0c.

The copyright and all ownership rights about the software Emu64, the source code and the documentation stay withThorsten Kattanek.

Usage
User and install Emu64 as often and as long as you want.

Offering Emu64
Emz64 has to be released unchanged complete with all files. You are not allowed to charge for giving Emu64 to someone or demand another form of compensation (besides the costs for the data carrier).

You are allowed to release Emu64 as part of a software package, as long as you obey the rules stated above. You don't need permission for this kind of release.

I would be more than happy if you write me a lien about your software package and what you think about Emu64.

Download the Emu64 package

You can find all published versions of Emu64 in the download area of the Emu64 Forum. You can download the files either as RAR archive or as ZIP archive. You don't have to register to download the files.

Installing Emu64

In case you don't have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed Emu64 will cancel the installation. You have to install the .NET Framework before installing Emu64. You can get the .NET Framework for free at www.microsoft.com.

After extracting the downloaded file you can start the Setup.msi by double clicking the file.

The install window with the Emu64 logo appears.

The controls while installing Emu64 are simple. You use the mouse and you can even use the keyboard.

With the button you continue installing Emu64.

With the button you cancel the installation.

With the button you go back one step in the installation progress.

This works for the whole installation.

To install Emu64 you now have to press the button.

A bit of information for the users that don't read this help document ;)

Click the to start installing Emu64.

Now you can choose another path than the default path to install Emu64 to. Just enter the path into the folder line or click on the button. Use to check if there is enough free space on your hard disc. If you run a multi user system it is possible to restrict the access only to the current user account. To do so click the current user radio button.

To continue just click on the button.

This window informs you, that Emu64 is now ready to install.

Click on the button to start.

Emu64 copies the required program data on you computer and installs. As soon as the installation process is done you can see the following buttons: and .

Now we click on the button again.

This window shows interesting facts about the last changes to Emu64.

After reading the information we click on the button.

Now we are neraly done! One final click on the Button to close the window and complete the installation of Emu64.

Updating Emu64

There is no special update function. Installing an update works the same way as installing Emu64 new. The only difference is, that Emu64 deinstalls the old version first.

Emu64 on you hard disc

Besides the user defined installation path, Emu64 also uses a folder called Emu64 in your My Documents folder. The folder features more subfolders that include for example the test programs in assembly or music as SID files. This Emu64 folder is also used to store the Freez files (.FRZ) or temporary files.

Deinstalling Emu64

This is impossible because you will get so used to this lovely piece of code that you never ever want to loose it anymore. But in case you are cold and heartless you have to navigate to the windows systemprogram SOFTWARE found in the System Control. After opening the program you see a list of all your installed software. Find the Emu64 entry, click it one time and the click the button.

Programs and files that are not part of the Emu64 package are not deinstalled or deleted.
