Menu: Settings → Change C64 Keyboard Keys
The C64 keyboard has a different keyboard layout than you normal PC keyboard nowadays (and every other input device that the future will bring). With the menu item Change C64 Keyboard Keys you can define C64 keys on your PC keyboard (in Emu64 only). If this feature is activated there is a check next to the menu item in the menu and the virtual C64 keyboard has a red frame around it.
If you hover ther mouse over the keys the marked key gets a blue frame . If you now click on the key you want to define the framecolor changes to red
and flashes. Now you press the key on your PC keyboard you want to assignt to that C64 keyboard key and Emu64 saves this for you.
![]() | Normal |
![]() | The C= key was marked by hovering the mouse over it. |
![]() | The C= key was clicked and is now in learning mode. |
To finally save the changes to the settings you have to click on the menu item Change C64 Keyboard Keys again and the check disappears again.
Note
There is no Undo-function to this. If you need to undo a setting you have to completely reset the changes you made with the menu item Settings -> Reset C64 Keyboard Keys.
With the menu item Tools -> Virtual C64 keyboard -> Change Size you can change the size of the user defined keyboard. There is no difference between the user defined keyboard and the virtual C64 keyboard.
The appendix features the default values for the C64 keyboard layout under default keyboard layout.
