Menu: Settings → Emu64 Settings → Controls
You can use a real joystick or joypad or emulate the joystick via keyboard in Emu64. The joystick or joypad has to be compatible to DirectX, otherwise Emu64 won't recognise it.
Note
You use digital joysticks for a real C64. You can't use them on a PC without a special translator!
Joystick-Selection (No Joystick)
Use the pulldown menu to select a joystick. The port number is the number just like on a real C64 (Port 1 / A). If you don't have a joystick connected to the PC you can choose Emulation via Keyboard. You set the keys for the emulated joystick via Keyboard Layout for Joystick (see below).
Joystick-Selection (No Joystick)
Use the pulldown menu to select a joystick. The port number is the number just like on a real C64 (Port 2 / B). If you don't have a joystick connected to the PC you can choose Emulation via Keyboard. You set the keys for the emulated joystick via Keyboard Layout for Joystick (see below).
Use this button to swap the settings for Game Port 1 and Game Port 2.
Note
You can access this function via the right click context menu on the C64 screen too.
Use this button to search for a joystick you plugged in to your PC after starting Emu64.
Note
Emu64 recognises DirectX compatible joysticks. If you remove one or two joysticks between two Emu64 sessions Emu64 will notice and send a message.
Not everybody has a joystick and some prefer to play with the keyboard. Use this function to emulate up to two joysticks via the keyboard. You assign the keyboard layout with the pulldown menus under Game Port 1 and/or Game Port 2.
Set a key for every basic direction and the fire button.
Use the pulldown menu to choose which direction (or firebutton) you want to set.
Then click on the button. The
buttons disappear and you can see Press Key. Now press the key you want for that joystick action.
After this the button reappears.
Repeat these steps for every direction and the firebutton.
This works exactly the same as for the Joystick in Port 1.
Close the setup window with the red cross in the upper right corner of the window and all changes are safed.
